THE TRI-CITY TIMES "The following appeared in the May 1, 1996 edition of THE TRI-CITY TIMES, a weekly newspaper published in Imlay City, Michigan, for a rural audience largely unfamiliar with the comic book field, or with the character, Vampirella." -T. Casey Brennan FORMER AREA MAN FINDS COMIC SUCCESS by Debra VanDenBerg - Tri-City Times Staff Writer ANN ARBOR - She's been biting necks and sucking blood for over two decades as "Vampirella," but in January this buxom comic character transformed into "Vampirella of Drakulon". Comic book writer T. Casey Brennan, formerly of Emmett and a 1965 graduate of Peck High School, meticulously weaves spine-tingling tales of Vampirella. Two recent publication, VAMPIRELLA CLASSIC No. 5 and VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA No. 20, are simply previews of the hit comic book that debuted in January, "Vampirella of Drakulon". They are distributed by Harris Comics. When President Bill Clinton was governor of the State of Arkansas, he joined forces with Mr. Brennan in an effort to deglamorize smoking. Mr. Brennan has taken an anti-smoking stance in his writings from the onset of his Vampirella creations. Because of his efforts, President Clinton proclaimed January 1990 as T. Casey Brennan Month in the State of Arkansas. Mr. Brennan has been listed numerous times in WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA and even in WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD. He has garnered the support of many high-level governmental officials in his fight against smoking. In 1982, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin placed Mr. Brennan's views in the Congressional Record, and he still promotes Mr. Brennan's cause. "Vampirella of Drakulon" raises the eyebrows and blood pressures of some readers in the comic book community, because the main character of the comic book is extremely voluptuous and scantily clad. At one time, there were talks of possible comic book burnings because of what some deemed objectionable material. Vampirella was not burned nor was it banned, but it has grown and evolved into a bigger and more exciting adventure comic that leaves faithful readers hungering for more. He is the son of the late Emmett resident Alice Brennan, an author and former instructor at St. Clair County Community College. Thanks T.
